Image : http://www.flickr.com

No Education, No Life! Just like food, water and air, education has become a basic necessity for everyone to survive in today’s world. Education is a broad concept that refers to all the experiences in which students can learn something to develop and establish them in the society. Education could be formal and informal. Formal education consists of a systematic standard of instruction, teaching and training. This format is derived from many different disciplines of life, i.e., psychology, philosophy, biology, linguistics, sociology, etc. While informal education consists of the general etiquette, decorum, rules and codes of conduct in the society.

Informal education is what you get mostly and largely from your progenitors. Your initial lessons starts from home where you get to learn how to sit, stand, behave and speak in the society with elders, mates, friends and others. When you start learning certain decorum then comes the time to go for formal education which helps in refining your persona further with more useful and powerful knowledge. This formal education helps you achieve your ultimate goal in the society of being a successful man or a satisfied person (depending on your own aspirations). It also helps you be a better human being and a person with refined wisdom.

In contemporary scenario, no child should be without education, as it is almost impossible to survive without it. Now all the nations and states have made it mandatory to provide primary/ elementary education to all kids, unbiased of their caste, creed, race, status and nationality. Special kids who have some difficulty in reading and writing, like other normal kids, also have an absolute access to any normal school for learning things the way others do with a little more care and concern. Various special schools are also available for their better and hassle free growth.

Why Skateboarding is Fun

Image : http://www.flickr.com

One of the most enjoyable, fun and entertaining activities that anyone can participate in is skateboarding. Now, for the uninformed or uninitiated, skateboarding may, on the surface, appear to be a complicated and difficult hobby to master. And while it’s true that, for professional or high-end skateboarders, their skills and abilities are as a result of many years of practice and patience, that does not prohibit anyone from taking up and getting in on the skateboarding revolution. As a matter of fact, skateboarding is more popular and more accessible today than it has ever been during any point in its history.

There are many reasons why people take up skateboarding, and there are many reasons as to why skateboarding is fun. For starters, skateboarding supplies a sense of thrill and excitement that other sports or activities simply can’t provide. There’s nothing quite like the feeling of standing on a narrow wooden board as you’re racing down an urban landscape or grabbing some air in a skate park. Now, that doesn’t mean that when you first step onto a skateboard deck that you should immediately try to attempt to complete a 1080 rotation. What it does mean that, over time, as you begin to feel more comfortable on your skateboard, you’ll also begin to realize just why people turn to skateboarding for intense physical action and excitement.

Another reason why skateboarding is fun is because, compared to other hobbies or recreational activities, skateboarding is relatively inexpensive to enter and pursue. Sports such as ice hockey require a tremendous amount of time, effort and dedication in order to truly excel at it. And while the same can be said and applied to skateboarding, you can really participate in it at your own pace. Additionally, with something like ice hockey, you also can only enjoy ice hockey inside an ice hockey arena - which may or may not exist in your community. With skateboarding, there really isn’t any limitation as to where or when you can hop on your board or deck and go for a ride.

Furthermore, skateboarding is a way to sort of “go against the grain” when it comes to the established culture. Even though skateboard decks have gained a strong foothold in mainstream life, there is still a certain counterculture or rebellious attitude when it comes to being a skateboarder. It’s actually a funny dichotomy: all across the country, skateboard parks and half-pipes are being built in public locations such as parks, thus providing a testament to its popularity. At the same time, these popular and public locations are being visited by people who are considered “rebels”. A third aspect is that, more and more people are deciding that skateboarding is a fun and exciting activity to get into.

A great way to get around town, build confidence and get or stay in shape, there are many fun aspects towards skateboarding. Children - and adults of all ages - are now discovering what skateboarders have known for many years: being a skateboarder comes with many different external benefits which may not be so noticeable at first, but which are fairly obvious and logical at the same time.

Duke McCallister has one philosophy when it comes to skateboards: and that’s to go skate or go home! A skateboarding fan, Duke wants to share his experiences and passion for skateboards with expert boarders and those new to skateboarding. In addition to writing about skateboards, he also visits GoSkateorGoHome.com for all his boarding needs.

Whether talking about skateboard decks, trucks, complete skateboards, grip tape or anything else about skateboarding, Duke is more than happy to talk about it, write about it and share stories about it!

And remember, if you want to check out a fantastic online destination for all your skateboarding needs, just roll on over to one of Duke’s favorite sites at GoSkateorGoHome.com!

Top Ten Military Movies 2000-2009

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Ready for a fight? Want to watch the best war movies that debuted in the past nine years? Here are the Real Military Network’s pick for the best War films of the past nine years:

1. Gladiator (2000): For the quintessential story of a Roman soldier, the fictional General Maximus Decimus Meridius played by Russell Crowe, who journeys from a General who led legions in battle, to a slave, to a gladiator who defied an Emperor. The opening battle scene is one of the most dramatic ancient Roman war scenes ever filmed.

2. Taegukgi (2004): This Korean made film is the “Saving Private Ryan” of the Republic of Korea and worth your time. It vividly portrays the Korean war (1950-1953), with superbly crafted battle scenes, from perspective of both South and North Koreans.

3. 300 (2007): Highly stylized, but exhilarating, this film depicts the passion and fury of the famous stand of the Spartan 300 against the Persians at narrow pass at Thermopylae. Thermopylae is an important battles to the development of western culture and this is a must see war film to understand why the story of the 300 Spartans resonates to this day.

4. The Alamo (2004): As much as I respect John Wayne movies, this is, bar none, the best Alamo movie ever made. Most historians agree that “The Alamo (2004)” is the most accurate depiction the battle for the beleaguered Texan fortress ever filmed. It is also the most dramatic.

5. “Flags of Our Fathers” (2006) and Letters from Iwo Jima (2006): For an excellent depiction of the ferocity of the fighting for Iwo Jima (1944) and for showing both sides of the battle.

6. Kingdom of Heaven (2005), for superb battle scenes of the Crusades and the depiction of the Battle (Siege) of Jerusalem.

7. Enemy at the Gates (2001), depiction of the Battle of Stalingrad; for the depiction of the dramatic and monumental Battle for Stalingrad, 1942-1943.

8. The War (in Russian: ?????) (2002) , for its graphic depiction of modern combat in Chechnya during the second Chechen War 1999-2000. This film provides accurate insights to the corrupt Chechen militia, incompetent Russian Army, and the Russian’s careless attitude concerning the plight of their soldiers who were captured by the Chechens. The film was made in Russia, but was produced in Russian and English.

9. Napoleon (2002) (TV mini-series): For an exciting view of Napoleonic Warfare. The first episode dramatically depicts young Napoleon’s first Italian campaign and his heroic leadership at the Battle of Arcole. This mini-series also depicts the Battles of Eylau, Austerlitz, Waterloo and the retreat from Russia.

10. The Great Raid (2005), for telling a forgotten story of great courage by a group of US Army Rangers who rescue U.S. and Pilipino POWs from a Japanese prison camp during WWII.

Honorable Mentions:

1. The Lost Battalion (2001), for the only WWII war movie of substance created within the 2000-2009 time period.

2. Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World (2003), for brining to life the tactics of naval warfare during the Napoleonic Wars.

3. Saints and Soldiers (2003) for an excellent tale about the Battle of the Bulge during WWII, (December 1944)

4. Hannibal - Rome’s Worst Nightmare (2006), this BBC TV depiction of the Second Punic War). The epic battle of Carthage and Rome is dramatically shown in this excellent film.

5. The Patriot (2000), depiction of the American Revolution and particularly for the depiction of the tactics used in the final battle, which is based on the Battle of Cowpens. In the Patriot, Mel Gibson plays the Benjamin Martin, a character loosely modeled after Francis Marion, the famous Southern militia leader known as the Swamp Fox.

Europe for First-Timers

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Europe is the obvious first choice for many first-time travelers. Its rich history, beautiful icons and stalwart architecture invoke a range of emotions for all those who have to come to see them. Europe’s compact space is also a huge advantage for those who are looking for variety in their travel experience - you can flit from one end of the continent to the other and you will have already been in three or four countries. Although there can be a number of travel pitfalls, such as the occasional non-usage of English and the large servings of German beer, Europe is relatively “easy” to travel in. Even the Eastern bloc, which remained closed to many travelers for a long time, has now opened up and becomes more tourist-friendly as the years go by. For many, Europe seduces them with its dazzling lights and wonderful beaches. For some, it’s a chance to join the manic festivals of Italy and Spain.

Europe has impressively retained its mix of the past and present. After sightseeing in medieval towns and castles, there is a bustling night scene in the local pubs, bars and cafes, especially in Barcelona, Copenhagen and London. More often than not, many of your most valued European experiences will be intangible; along the way, you will meet people with different points of view and backgrounds who will greatly enhance and perhaps even change, your life.

If you are still planning your first European trip, it’s important to know the scope of the land you are about to visit. To date, there are 36 countries in Europe that occupy a land area of almost 5.7 million sq km. This area is slightly less than three-quarters of Australia, or almost the 48 “continental” states of the USA. The distance between Los Angeles to Chicago is almost the same as the distance from London to Ankara. The distance between Lisbon and Helsinki is almost like the distance between San Francisco and Columbus, Ohio. In terms of population density, Europe’s is much greater than that of Australia, with an average density of about 100 people per square kilometer, which is four times the density of the USA. Europe’s total population is almost 575 million people; this is more than double that of the USA despite the fact that Europe’s landmass is only two-thirds of US territory. Europeans are quite evenly spread out over the continent except for the Netherlands which has a population density of almost four times the average. The Scandinavian countries, on the other hand, have a much smaller person-land ratio. Take Finland, for example which is about eight times the size of the Netherlands but has only less than a third of the latter’s population. Iceland is more than double the size of the Netherlands but has a density of less than three people per square kilometer. Norway has thirteen people per square kilometer; while Sweden supports a population comparable to the Netherlands’ but its land area is ten times bigger.

Maybe you already have an idea of what you want to see and experience while in Europe. The important thing is to go. Buy a good travel guide, book a plane ticket and cast aside all self doubt. Don’t worry about not having a good time (you probably will) or that you’ll lose your passport (a rare possibility if you just retain common sense), or even that you can’t afford it (there are cheap hostels and food along the way). Just go. You’ll have priceless experiences, amazing insights and perhaps, a start of a lifelong passion for travel.

Shrink Wrap Films

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Shrink wrap films are the most popular and inexpensive materials used for packing. Nowadays, shrink wrap films are available in a variety of models and sizes. Commonly used types include polyethylene shrink film, PVC shrink film and polyolefin shrink wrap. They pack products such as boxes, tapes, CDs, food, DVDs, videocassettes, jewelry boxes, photographs and frames.

PVC shrink films are used for packing non-perishable items, and are available in eye-catching colors. This type of film will shrink at low heat. Though PVC shrink film is approved by Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for food packing, it has a pungent odor.

Polyolefin shrink wrap film is a combination of polyethylene and polyethylene. It is more transparent and smoother than PVC shrink film. It usually requires high temperatures to shrink, but also works well with one step shrink wrap machines. Polyolefin shrink wrap films are more commonly used for packing food products. Polyolefin shrink wrap films are available in different forms such as low-temp polyolefin, anti-fog polyolefin and pre-perforated polyolefin.

A general purpose shrink film, the polyethylene shrink film is well known for its versatile nature. It can also withstand bad climatic conditions. So it is used to wrap large items such as boats and cars during the winter. Polyethylene shrink films mostly come with UVI protection to avoid damages caused by ultraviolet rays. EVA (Ethyl Vinyl Acetate) is added with polyethylene shrink films to keep them soft and flexible in winter. This heavy duty shrink film is available in eye-catching colors and attractive prints.

All types of shrink wrap films come primarily in two varieties, single-wound and centerfold. In centerfold shrink wrap films, the products are tucked in between the fold of the films, and then the edges are sealed. But in single-wound shrink wrap film, one layer of film is wound around a core. This kind of shrink wrap film is widely used for packing automatic equipment. The centerfold shrink wrap film is meant for semiautomatic and manual shrink packaging.

Shrink films are available in different widths and gauges, mostly in 60, 75, and 100 gauges, with a width above 10 inches. Generally, prices depend on the length, width, and qualities such as the shine and clarity. PVC shrink films are the cheapest of the lot. Shrink films can be availed from any of the local outlets or online stores specializing in the same. The main advantage of online stores is that they provide a wide array of options.

Shrink Wrap provides detailed information on Shrink Wrap, Shrink Wrap Machines, Shrink Wrap Systems, Shrink Wrap Bags and more. Shrink Wrap is affiliated with File Shredder.
